KENT, OHIO, January 7, 2009
– The Northeast Ohio Trade & Economic Consortium (NEOTEC) has received an annual award of excellence in marketing from the Mid-America Economic Development Council (MAEDC) for the second consecutive year. The award was presented to NEOTEC as first place in the Business Retention and Expansion marketing materials category during the MAEDC annual Competitiveness Conference in December in Chicago.

The awards competition was open to economic development organizations throughout MAEDC’s 10-state area. NEOTEC was selected for the award based on recognition for specific initiatives designed to retain or expand existing industries. NEOTEC’s entry featured the “Foreign-Trade Zone Survival Kit,” a comprehensive marketing kit detailing the U.S. Foreign-Trade Zone program and its benefits. NEOTEC is administrator of Northeast Ohio’s Foreign-Trade Zone #181, which covers more than 6,000 acres at 35 sites throughout the region.

According to NEOTEC president and CEO Ron DeBarr, the kit provides valuable information to educate manufacturers about the cost-saving benefits of the foreign-trade zone program and how it can help them compete in the global economy.

“The Foreign-Trade Zone program is a unique global supply chain management tool, and NEOTEC recognizes the need to ‘get the word out’ so that more companies can utilize its benefits and succeed in the international marketplace,” said DeBarr. “We are pleased to be honored for our marketing efforts by the Mid-America Economic Development Council, and will continue to provide the services and initiatives necessary to encourage economic growth in Northeast Ohio,” said DeBarr.

NEOTEC is a regional economic development partnership of 10 Northeast Ohio counties. In addition to Foreign-Trade Zone 181, NEOTEC also administers the International Trade Assistance Center (ITAC) to provide export counseling assistance to area businesses, and the Northeast Ohio Logistics Network to help improve regional market access.
